Boots opticians upgrade scam

Hi

I have just picked up new glasses for me and my husband from Boots opticians (two pairs each). When we ordered them last week we were persuaded to get the upgraded Boots Protect plus lenses as these were anti-reflective as well as being scratch and smudge proof. As I was wearing mine tonight, I noticed they had already got very smudged and I wondered how that was possible with anti-smudge lenses, I subsequently went on their website to check that I had heard that correctly, and saw that their normal lenses provide anti-scratch and anti-reflective properties, and that the upgraded ones were simply 'dust repellent' and 'smudge resistant' (something I had already established was untrue). So basically the benefits we were told these lenses provided were already available in the standard lens.

As each lens was £50 extra we paid £200 for nothing. I am ready to go in on Saturday to complain but am I likely to get anywhere?

they say 'smudge resistant'. Anyway, that's not the issue - the issue is that they sold them to me on a benefit that was available with the standard lenses - anti-reflective and scratch resistant.

The protect plus lenses have other benefits apart from the anti scratch and UV protection that comes as standard.
These are water repellence, dust repellence and smudge resistance.
  • I know but they implied that the standard lenses had no benefits at all and anyway, they are NOT smudge resistant!

Smudge resistant doesn't mean smudge proof.

You should ask for a replacement standard pair and ask them to refund the extra amount.
