    I love that, Upsidedownbear:T:T:T

Will see if I can print it out so I can use it all over the place. Could be my motto;)
Well this is mine (I can predict the post will be edited by the mods v soon ;)).

I only managed to read 2 of the six books I took away with me, but made sound progress on the other 4.

9/10 - such a compelling yet lovely book, and one I couldn't put down! It struck so many different chords at the same time, and also followed on nicely from what I'd read about Maya Angelou's childhood - the same issues existed two generations on. Thanks to the OSers that encouraged me to select this from my vas collection!

8/10, I really liked this one too. It presented an argument full circle, and actually made some economic theories I was aware of make sense in the real world. It's the kind of book that makes you want to stop spending and empty out all of your cupboards and donate the stuff you never use to the chaz! (Apart from the contents of my bookcases of course, some things are sacred :D).

I'll finish what I'm reading and then select an uplifting book for the next!

    Afternoon all

    This month's reads so far

The G File by Hakan Nesser......
Really enjoyable and exciting = 9/10

    Retribution by Steffen Jacobsen.....
    Couldn't put it down book = 9/10

Shopaholic to the Rescue by Sophie Kinsella....
Disappointing from this author, whom I usually enjoy = 5/10

Christmas in the Snow by Karen Swan ....
Too many sub-plots and twists. Would have preferred less plots better filled out = 6/10

Currently reading Keeping the Dead by Tess Gerritsen

Not been reading as much last few nights due to over-watching of the Olympics. I can see this week going the same way :rotfl: Oh well, they're only on once every four years eh.

Hope you all enjoying your weekend

Same here with the Olympics winning over the reading but, as you say, they're only every 4 years. All the best coverage seems to be in the early hours of the morning so I'm constantly nodding off whenever I settle myself in my reading chair after tea:o

I've a couple of books on the go at the moment which is unusual for me as I like to get stuck into one and read it to the end without getting sidetracked by a second one. I've no problem with multi-tasking in general but as far as reading goes it's a no-no:eek:

I've a Peter James (Looking Good Dead) which I would normally be devouring but so many TV interruptions or snoozing means I'm getting nowhere fast:o. The other is non-fiction about how Agatha Christie devised her plots. I'm just dipping in and out of it and remembering nothing of what I've read.

Roll on the Olympic closing ceremony I say so normal life can resume;)

    Hi,
Please can I join your thread?
I currently have a few books on the go, including Vikings by Neil Oliver and a book on the TV show Vikings (which is a favourite programme. ) Bit of a theme going on!
Have picked up a copy of A Short History of Tractors in Ukranian as it's different to what I would usually read. Anyone out there read it?
  • Just finished Jeffery Deaver's latest Lincoln Rhyme novel: The Steel Kiss
Always enjoy his books, especially the Lincoln Rhyme ones, and this didn't disappoint.
    Normal people worry me.

:hello: Grumpmum. Everyone's welcome here, the more the merrier:beer:

I haven't read A Short History of Tractors in Ukraine but have heard very good reports of it. I picked up another of her books, Strawberry Fields I think it's called, at a charity shop last year. Still not started it, I can't remember where I put it:o

7/10, makes perfect sense in theory but most of us need to take the heat out of any situation before we can see it that way.

I have read the following up to p85, and decided not to spend any more time on it:

5/10. There are a number of things I dislike about the book - or rather author, for it is a memoir. Firstly the fact that she seems to lack any self respect. Secondly her grungy lifestyle juxtaposed with her pseudo-intellectualism. Thirdly her way of speaking is intensely annoying, it's like one of those American films where you don't fully catch the dialogue because the characters speak so fast or seem to have their own lexicon (from that perspective you could argue it is well-written). It might have been ok to write as an immature 21 year old but she was a grown woman. Not for me.

Welcome to the Fred Grumpmum - happy reading :D

    I have finished
Keeping the Dead by Tess Gerritsen.....
Thoroughly enjoyed this. Difficult to pre-guess the conclusion and quite suspenseful 9/10

*Next book out of the bag is............
All that Remains by Patricia Cornwall (one of Scarpetta series). I generally enjoy her books so looking forward to this one.

*When I go to the library I usually choose 8/9 books. On getting home I sort them so there's a mix of genre and put in a bag. Then take top one out each time - by time I've read 3/4 I've generally forgotten what's left in the bag, so it's a kinda surprise :rotfl:

Hope you're all enjoying the Olympics - Go Team GB :T
    Have a good Wednesday
