How does anyone do it? MIL is 94 and hasn't been able to walk far for years so got a blue badge. She asked me to renew it for her.
So what do you think she will need?
Certified copy of Council tax, certified copy of birth cert. Details with dates of the last eight times she saw a doctor, she can't remember these so the surgery will charge for this info. At this stage I gave up!
This is just to renew it! Why can't she simply state that her condition hasn't got better????

Because there's dishonest people out there that wouldn't.

The surgery won't charge if you are requesting appointment dates only, just ask the receptionist.
  • What was the reason she got the last badge?

I reapplied for my dads badge and filled out the form for him, as my dad was well known to social work they looked up his file and he got his badge later without any questions
My dad has dementia, major mobility issues and carers in 4 times a day
    baldly going on...

Sorry, who looked up his file and where did the badge come from?
I tried to renew the badge on line and when the site said they needed all this I rang up but they said I must get all this info and do the online form or print out the same form to post to them.
She has a blue badge because she can only walk a few, up to 5, steps.

I'm guessing it was social services who looked up his file as he has services through them.

If you ask at reception, some surgeries will provide appointment information free of charge, others will make a small charge because they have to take the time to get the information, compile it and then produce it. If the council want it on GP headed paper it will deffo cost you, as it costs the surgery time and money to do that, although the cost is small.

It is the council's responsibility to ensure fraud doesn't occur, and that means jumping through hoops. If you want a blue badge, you have to jump through the hoops; if you don't want to jump through the hoops, you don't get a badge.

Thanks, I have emailed them. Trouble is we live 220 miles away so getting all the paperwork they need and having it verified is not easy.
Anyway will wait and see if WSCC can help.
MIL had another stroke recently so has very reluctantly moved into a care home, sorting out her social and financial affairs for this is hard enough without another headache!

More than likely the home will have a blue badge for taking residents to appointments and other visits. Plus in private car parks you don't strictly need a blue badge to park in disabled spaces. Does she still need one?

Hi, yes she still needs one, my BIL and SIL live near and see her regularly, going to her favourite cafe and garden centre where she needs the badge for parking.
However I have just had a speedy reply from WSCC and they will issue a replacement badge on the information given without any further documentation. First class service, wish all government depts. were as good as this and actually served the people who pay their wages!
