Canon charger for camera battery goes off before battery charged

Hi Folks,

I have a Canon battery charger for the batteries for my Canon camera. When I put the battery into it the orange charging light comes on for a few minutes, then just goes off. There is a green light that comes on when the battery is fully charged. That isn't coming on, and when I re-insert the battery the orange light comes on again for a few minutes, then goes off without the green light coming on.

In case it's important, the charger has this on the back (presumably its order number?)
CB-2LZE

I've been trying to charge a Duracell battery in it, which I've never had problems with before.

Last time it worked was with the Canon battery that came with camera. I don't want to try that out as still have a fair amount of charge in it, and don't want to mess it up! :o

Before I spend money I'd like to ask your opinion(s) as to whether I need to get new charger or ditch the battery. Or both?

I hate to be without my camera! I'm not yet, but dependent on usage I will be soon! Help!

So the battery you are having issues with is a third party battery?
Is this the right battery for the charger?

If it is I'd say the battery is duff.

Yes it's not a Canon battery, but it has charged fine before, and worked fine in the camera. It's a Duracell, so while a lot cheaper than the Canon batteries are, I thought it was a decent compromise.

Many thanks for your reply. Gives me something to go on with. I guess I'll go for a new Canon battery first - it'll be useful anyway even if it doesn't solve my problem! At which time I guess I'll have to get new charger.

Best wishes and thanks from Liverpool.

It can happen with compatibles, Duracell are more often faked too because they are a brand name.
