Replacement Windows Quotation

Options
Hi

I've just had a quotation through for replacing 7 windows in my house for £4,265 + VAT.. I don't have the sizes of them but 2 are big bay windows, 1 is a very small window at the top of the stairs, 1 is a small downstairs bathroom window and the other 3 are what I would call normal sized windows.

This is for White PVCu Grade A windows. At least 1 bay window will be toughened glass as 1 sits partway down some stairs.

Does anyone know if this sounds right? I'd been expecting cheaper but had admittedly not considered the 2 bay windows. I'll be getting a few more quotes but this is the company I wanted to go with as I know people who have used them in the past and they have a solid reputation.

Many thanks!

  • To be honest it does not sound too bad but you could probably knock £500 or about that off the price or ask for a cash deal. Depending on how many windows do your bays consist of (whether its a 3, 4 or bigger part bays). Each window on the bay would count as one, so hypothetically if your both bays would consist of 3 windows each, you would have a total of 11 windows to be replaced. Windows are prices more or less in between £350 - £500 per window depends on the area where you stay and also type of the finishings required etc. The VAT however seems to be a killer.

Make sure you choose a reputable company, as theres a lot of cowboys in double glazing. Get your guarantee in writing and if cash deal is not an option, demand your invoice.

10% off salesman might hit his target but lose commission on your sale,
15% off if his manager does the same.
End of month figures are very important to salesmen so always negotiate and be ready to sign last couple of days of the month.

Alternatively , dont use a firm that employs salesman and go with a local , well regarded firm where the owner or someone senior comes to your home
Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.
