Price match guarantee

I made a booking with booking.com with price match guarantee on the booking receipt. Upon claiming a considerable price difference they stated my claim invalid as does not meet terms as there is no free cancelation. Is this fair ? My booking Clearly states price match guarantee ! It's on my receipt .Are they ok to falsely advertise this on my confirmation even tho under no circumstances is it possible for me to use it ? I feel that I have been miss sold my holiday as i booked with this company due to their price match guarantee making it possible for me to that Get the best deal available when and if the prices change. Any help with what I can do would be great. If I'm stuck with it then I hope people can be made aware by this falsely advertised price match guarantee on non free cancelation holidays. Thanks

Did you read the T's and C's before buying?

Normally with any sort of "price match guarantee" the two quotes must be identical - if you have one with free cancellation and one without free cancellation, then they aren't identical and obviously therefore exempt from the "price match guarantee".

    IMO, perfectly fair and acceptable.
It's no different to the price match T&C's offered by John Lewis, Asda and a host of other retailers.
They will price match on identical goods sold by other retailers provided that the goods and the terms of both purchases are the same.

If I buy a TV that comes with a 5 year warranty from JL for £500 I wouldn't expect them to match the price if I saw the same TV in Tesco for £480 if the Tesco set only had a 1 year warranty.

Booking.com's Best Price Guaranteed terms include:
If you find your reservation on another website at a lower rate, contact our customer care team without delay. We will match the rate of the other deal if the following conditions are met:
    1. ...
    2. ...
    3. The other deal is subject to the same booking conditions you’ve opted for with Booking.com. This means:
. It is the same property
. It is the same room type, apartment type, etc.
. It is for the same check-in and check-out dates
. It has identical room conditions attached (including the meal plan, cancellation policy, package offer, etc.)

It appears that the cancellation policy is different on the holiday you are asking them to match.

Can you cancel the original one, using a free cancellation, and then buy the cheaper alternative?

(Considering that the cheaper one can't be later amended or cancelled again)

You appear to be confused as to what their price match offers. The part I have bolded suggests that you believe you can invoke their price match at any time the price drops with another supplier, e.g. you book in January for August travel at a price of £1000 and expect them to match in August if another supplier is selling at £250 because they have unsold places the day before travel.

The Booking.com price match only applies to deals on offer at the time of booking (see from their terms below), not any future price changes.

If you find your reservation on another website at a lower rate, contact our customer care team without delay. We will match the rate of the other deal if the following conditions are met:
    1. You have contacted us immediately after booking with all the details of the other deal including a link to the offer on the website and the exact price being quoted

Never used booking.com but I've used Hotels.com twice and they have refunded me the difference with no questions asked on two separate occasions.
