Applying for Credit Card...

I am just getting my online application in for a credit card with Santander....

I am both self-employed and employed.....

But under employment you can only enter one set of employment details.

I have entered my employed details......

But later on it asks for your annual income....and I have inputted my combined self-employed and employed income.....

I am probably over-worrying, but was wondering....

1. If I should just put my employed salary and not include my self-employed earnings in the income section.

2. Keep the income as I have it now with self-employed / employed totalled as it does ask for your 'total income before tax'.

Just not sure how Santander go about confirming these details...

Will they possibly phone my employer and ask what my salary is? Because if they do it will be a lot less than the total income I have inputted which might cause problems? At the end of the day my employed earning are above the £7500 that Santander require you to be earning - so guess that is mainly what they need to know....

Will Santander be able to look up if I am self-employed anyway?... and realise that's why the total income I have inputted is a lot higher than the employed income my employer may need to confirm to Santander?

They will not contact your employer about your salary, and even if they did, your employer would probably be acting illegally by disclosing anything to them. I'd put down your combined income - and remember the figure. If you apply for another financial product you'll need to give the same or similar figure. This is because the data you supply is recorded on a big-bother database called National Hunter, which is consulted by creditors as part of their checking process.
  • Agreed. Enter as employed then later put your total annual income.

Good luck. Let us know how it went!!
  • Enter employed wages, it will probably ask you on the same page if you have any income from other sources as well - I guess you can put in your self employed earnings in that box

After all that - Santander definitely didn't need to contact my employer....

Filled in application and clicked 'complete', 2 seconds later I get an email saying I have been approved.

It's all automatic. They have been offering credit cards to me before so I guess it's not a surprise it's been instantly accepted.

Onto the next step.....using it and paying it off each month fully.....

then onto applying for a mortgage late this year.

    Cheers guys for your help.
