I am toying with the idea of getting married in Mauritius in a few years time and wondered if anyone has experience of it? or even a wedding abroad? We would have a 5 and a 7 year old with us too.
if anyone can answer a few questions or recommend something that would be great,
cheers

Experiences with overseas weddings is that about only 10-20% of the people you invite will go, due to cost. Some close family may not be able to go.
Something to keep in mind anyway.Spend what is left after saving. Don't save what is left after spending0 -
we are half expecting parents and siblings, then a big party when we get home for everyone else!0

Two of my friends went to Fiji to get married, but they didn't invite anyone and in fact I was one of only a very few people to know in advance that it was going to happen. I think they felt it was a better use of their money to spend it on a good holiday rather than pay for other people to have a free meal.0

Romantic as it may sound Mauritius is actually rather a plain island with little to recommend it except its beaches and the securely-guarded resorts where most tourists stay.
As a result it can be rather expensive and may put off a lot of people travelling there for your wedding.
We managed a week some years ago in a small hotel https://www.le-beachclub.com but that was about enough.Apart from a day at the capital's racetrack and a tour around the island there really isn't much to do or see.
If it's a beach wedding you're after I would recommend Cuba. There are plenty of AI tours there where the wedding can be arranged for you and it's also a fascinating country that is well worth seeing now before the thawing of relations with the US starts to bring in large-scale US tourism.

I'm quite interested to get out and about whereas the missis wouldnt want to leave the resort, i'll look at Cuba too.
In terms of organisation, as far as i can gather you book a holiday and then get in touch with a local company or wedding planner who sort it all out independant of the hotel?0 -
Hi Johnny, my experience is very different to Toms. My wife and I were married in Mauritius at http://www.lapirogue.com/en/ and it was wonderful. We also spent 3 weeks there exploring the very interesting island. I agree that Cuba is also a nice resort but my personal recommendation would be to do your research carefully and not be too hasty in coming to a decision.0
