Scottish Highland - when?

Options
Hi
I really like to see the Scottish Highland scenery that there is still snow on the mountain, but green on the ground. I'm hoping to go in Easter time (end of March 2016). Would I still be able to see this?
I would also want to go to Skye Island. Would I be able to in March? Does their ferry run in March?

Thank you in advance.

You can still have snow on the mountains in August, no problem in March and you may even have snow on the ground.

Skye is connected to the mainland by bridge, but there is a year round ferry to Mallaig if you want to use a ferry.

If you go to the Cairngorms in Aviemore there will more than likely still be snow up there. There is a funicular that takes you to the top where there is a nice visitor centre and cafe (fantastic hot chocolate!) and there is an exit out onto a viewing platform up there too

As Daveyjp said there is a bridge over to Skye which is free to use

We went to the Cairngorms in April and there was still lots of snow at the top. :D We took the funicular to the top of Cairn Gorm itself as Faith177 mentioned.

As others have said - you can just drive to Skye over the bridge:

If I can also see snow on mountain in August, then March is probably not the best time to go, because it's cold and wet. I will be travelling with a 1 year old, so no skiiing or hiking. I haven't planned the route yet. Just know I want to see scerey with snow on mountains.

How about end of May? Do I have to go further North to see snow on mountains in May?

You could take the ferry over to Skye and use the bridge on the way back; or vice versa. https://www.calmac.co.uk/mallaig-armadale-skye-ferry-winter-timetable

As others have said you can find snow all the year around on some of the mountains. However, it does rain a lot on the west coast!

May is generally a good time to visit. There should be snow on the mountains and it will also be warmer.

You will also enjoy the long hours of daylight, especially further north in Skye.
