teh accepted wisdom is you should pay once you have received your statement and before the payment date as that is what is reported, but the 2 free reports I look at record the balance, the spend and the amount paid, not just the statement balance so I'm not sure how true that is.

the spend is the statement balance, they only report one per month so report the statement balance

Thanks for the advice, I think I can apply for one of these Capital One credit cards, I guess if I pay for things off the card and pay it off immediately, it would count as positive on my credit score?

When you get your credit card just set up a direct debit to pay the balance in full each month. This avoids you having to pay interest, prevents you inadvertently missing a payment and will help establish a good credit history.

There's something more to this than meets the eye. What are you not telling us?

A 14 year old opens a PayPal/eBay account. Manages to get in to debt and owe PayPal money. Somehow a CCJ is made against you, a minor. Fast forward 6 years, said CCJ was still on your file?

You said: "I had a CCJ on my file and various other debts". What other various debts? Were you racking up credit cards in your teens too?

    I'm out.
