Did you specifically tell Very the payment was for your your BNPL purchase?
Statements contain text similar to this about BNPL:Pay the full cash price of £122.53 by 10 Aug 15. This way you won’t have to pay the interest. Simply make your payment online or call us on 08448 222 321. It’s important you tell us that your payment is towards your Buy Now Pay Later items.
If you don't tell them a payment is towards a BNPL purchase the payment simply reduces your balance, then the BNPL purchase is added to your statement along with all the interest that accrued.
IIRC when you make a payment online you are also offered the option to allocate it to specific BNPL purchases.0 -
The Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 were published by BIS on 13 December 2013 and came into effect on 13 June 2014. The regulations apply to retailers, traders and passenger transport companies. New FCA regulations covering financial service companies, including banks, insurers, credit card and finance companies came into effect on 26 October 2015. These organisations must use 01, 02, 03 or 080 numbers for contact by existing customers.
Irrespective of whichever of the regulations applies here, you should not be asked to call a premium rate 0844 number.0 -

It was a quote from a previous statement, produced before 26th October. My point was to highlight that customers must tell Very they wish to allocate a payment against a specific BNPL purchase.
Very now publishes 0344 822 2321 as its customer service number.0
