Going from joint to single CTC/WTC

Just a quick question, if you have a joint CTC and your partner is getting WTC and leaves, how long does it take for them to sort out you claim and put it into a single persons only claim, does it takes weeks or is it quite a straight forward process,

thanks.

Providing you call within a month, they should be able to set up the new claim over the phone.

Could still take a couple of weeks (or could just be a couple of days, it varies) but far quicker than having to wait on forms to be sent to you then sent back.

Ok thanks, I would of thought (hoped) it should be fairly quick, I hope it don't take too long.

A new claim could take 8 weeks if starting from scratch so 2 weeks is quick for them.

I've seen claims take 2 days and 2 years. Every claim is different. Depends if they want to do any extra checks.

But surely taking an ex partner off a claim and the other person claiming as a single person who would be claiming ESA wouldn't take as long?

Sadly I can't predict the future.

As I said, I've seen it take just a couple of days, sometimes weeks, sometimes longer.

    2 weeks isn't as long as 8.

If compliance want to check it then it will always take longer.

Sadly it's not as easy as just updating the claim. The joint claim must be closed and a new single claim started. You have to ring them up,( they will answer the phone after about 40 minutes, if you're lucky) then they will send you a new form to fill in which will arrive about 2 weeks later. You've then got to fill the form in and get it back to them within 2 weeks because you can't backdate more than a month, and your old claim ended the second you rung them (give or take 40 minutes).

You don't need a form for going from joint to single.

I didn't think you needed a form, it can usually be done over the phone, I've has change of circumstances before, ie, lost job, new job etc and always did it over the phone and never had my money stopped.

If you go from a single to joint claim your claim is ended and a new form sent.

If you go from a joint to single claim your claim is ended but they set up the new one over the phone providing you call in time as I mentioned earlier.
