Tesco insurance terms
Renewing insurance and Tesco comes up the cheapest but I was hoping someone could help me make sense of these terms:
http://www.tescobank.com/assets/sections/carins/pdf/tesco-car-insurance-all-policy-booklet-1014.pdf
Page 14, damage to car. I won't be covered for loss or damage to the car caused by fire or theft. It's a comprehensive policy, isn't fire and theft a basic part of that?
Page 28, prospects of success. If you are more than 50% to blame for an accident you get no cover at all. Does this mean you receive no legal cover in an accident at all? Another party could sue me and I wouldn't be represented or it means I wouldn't be represented if i tried to sue them?
It's hard to find good reviews of Tesco car insurance, the next cheapest is Admiral by over a £100 more.

Eh? Page 14 clearly says
"What is covered
We will pay for loss of or damage to the car caused by fire, theft or attempted theft. See page 15 for details of how we settle claims."
Page 28 doesn't say anything about 'Prospects of Success'.
ETA - Page 26 does, though. And no, it means they won't pursue a legal action (i.e. claiming off a third party) if they don't think you have a chance of winning it.0 -
You are not covered for damage or loss by fire, theft or attempted theft under Section A- damage to car
You are covered for the above under Section C - Fire and Theft.0 -
I'm with Tesco car insurance as they have been cheapest for comprehensive cover for the last 2 years. Never had to claim or contact them so don't know what they are like to deal with.0

Section A covers accidental damage etc - but not fire or theft. Section C covers fire and theft - but not accidental damage etc. it's a way of demarcating different types of policy. If you have TPFT cover section C applies but section A doesn't. If you have comprehensive cover both sections A and C apply. (Your policy schedule should say which sections apply).
Motor legal protection has nothing to do with giving you representation if someone sues you. That's what third party cover is for - if someone sues you your insurer defends the claim (or decides to pay it) themselves, and pays the costs of any judgement against you. It's actually for you to use to claim for your uninsured losses (personal injury, time off work, your excess) from the other party in the event of an accident which (you claim) isn't your fault, or to provide a solicitor to help you sue someone else. The clause you mention is saying that they will only provide one if your claim has a reasonable prospect of success, ie if the evidence and the law are at least somewhat on your side, enough to give you a better than 50/50 chance of winning. This is a fairly standard clause with legal expense cover.0 -
I used to be with Tesco, the only problem I had (apart from I eventually got cheaper elsewhere) was that they are actually the same company as most of the "own brands" and they wouldn't pay for a windscreen chip repair except through 1 company.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

No Tesco car insurance is underwritten by Tesco Bank/Finance or something like that. A lot of the "own brands" as you put it are through BISL & Admiral, who also own meerkats and confused.0 -

Tesco Bank / Finance is the brand name, they do not underwrite the policies...0 -

LeeUK is right, in 2009, Tesco joined Ageas to form Tesco Underwriting.

I left before then, I vaguely recall it was UK Insurance or similar. Anyway, I tried to get a windscreen chip repaired, and no-one local would touch it for "free" as Tesco wouldn't deal with them.
Maybe things are different now that everyone else is on board
