Tomato pest identification needed

My tomatoes are doing well this year but in the last week I have noticed that some of them seem to have large portions eaten out of them. I actually found one with what looked like a tiny black slug inside. I have a pests and diseases gardening book but can't identify this from it.
Can anyone offer help and suggestions.

Slugs & snails do eat ripining toms, try slug pellets around them

I have also found caterpillars on them, not sure of type but it was green & well hidden

Probably is, just as you say, a tiny black slug. They've been a nightmare this year with all the rain
