Payday loan default notice query

Hi,
I have asked a payday loan company to remove a default entry on my credit file from a few years ago, they have declined stating it would undermine the quality of their data submission to the CRA. In my complaint to them I stated I never received any default notice in relation to this debt, in their reply they didn't admit sending one. As a result I suspect they know they didn't. Do they legally have to send a default notice and should I complain now to the FOS?
Thank you

Did you default or not?
If you defaulted why do they need to send you a notice? You already know you didn't keep to your side of the credit agreement by not paying.
Complain to the FOS that you didn't pay. Good one.0 -

If you actually read what the OP said, he asked if he should complain that they didn't send him a default notice. Well p..., should he?0 -

A default at a CRA (ie status 8) means a relationship between lender and borrower has broken down. The most common trigger for a default status is a notice under the CCA but it does not have to be. For example, an overdue overdraft will never have a DN issued, but will result in several warning letters.
In this case, unless you are saying you did not default on the loan I am afraid I think you are wasting your time, because the information is not actually inaccurate -0 -
PaulW922 makes some good points.
To clarify, a default on your credit file and a default notice being issued in the post are 2 separate things. A default notice would be sent to you in the post before the lender can take action against the debt in the county court. A default is recorded on your credit file for the reasons PaulW922 has stated.
Unless you can demonstrate that the loan did not default I am afraid it is very unlikely the default would be removed - only incorrect data can be removed from your credit file. Good luck OP.
