Epson printer breakdown within warranty

My Epson printer had an error message resulting in me taking it to a local Epson designated repairer. It is still within warranty. They have just phoned to tell me that Epson have sent a 'refurbished' model in replacement. The shop told me Epson would not pay them more than 15mins for diagnosis/repair and that it would take 3 - 4 hours to mend.
Is Epson correct in sending me a refurbished model?

Yes, they are - if the warranty terms allow it.Rags2Riches wrote: »My Epson printer had an error message resulting in me taking it to a local Epson designated repairer. It is still within warranty. Remember, your machine is no longer brand new, so why should the replacement be brand new?
Also worth noting is that it is unlikely that the warranty will start again just because the printer is replaced.0 -
More than likely, read the terms of the warranty. They have exchanged your used dead printer for a used working one - it may be a brand new one fed into the swap out system. This is the way most warranties for this type of equipment work. Reduces your down time and reduces their costs as they can refurbish at factory level.
Where did you purchase the printer from ? Your consumer rights are with the seller but you have taken up the manufacturer warranty and their terms.0 -
Thanks for your reply to my query.
Just to clarify -I bought the printer from a company on Amazon. When I spoke to Epson they knew this but told me to take it to their designated repair company.
Just hoping this refurbished replacement offer lasts a decent time!!0 -
As you did not purchase from Epson you have to rely on their warranty terms not the sale of goods act .
Certainly the Epson refurbs are to a high standard and its normal for a fault to be replaced by a factory refurb .0
