Agreed ans also lesson learned
I wouldn't feel bad if I was to take a job and decline it very last minute if something better comes up
I always had a thought i should treat employers with respect and decency but not anymore0 -

I suggest you take them as you find them - some are very good employers, why would be a pain in the neck because of one bad experience?
I have had a horror of an ex employee, should I treat those employees I currently have badly because of the one?0 -
This one seemed perfect with a book of just benefits !!
So proud of their culture and what made me turn down the other offers
It wasn't some dodgy backyard employer0 -

And there is nothing to say that this company is - as a number of posters have pointed out there may be have been internal staff at risk of redundancy and there is an obligation to help redeploy such staff if possible. In addition, they are a known quantity and you are not!
If there were racist then you would never have received an offer after interview.
Take the money, move on and get over it

I expect if they offered some compensation, it is not in an attempt to stop you from taking them to court, because they would know very well you had no case, but because they felt genuinely bad?
I had to do this once and I felt absolutely dreadful about it. They bent backwards to accommodate me and I was very grateful, but the Friday before I was due to start the job, at 6pm, I got an unexpected phone call from an employer I had gone to an interview to a couple of weeks and heard nothing back to offer me the job. The job paid £10k more, and was much more in line with the career I wanted. There was absolutely no way I could have given up this opportunity.I wouldn't feel bad if I was to take a job and decline it very last minute if something better comes up
Making that phone call on the Monday morning was horrendous, and of course, they didn't believe me when I said that I had only been offered the job late on the Friday. Looking back though, I most certainly did the right thing. I'm sure they managed to find someone else, and the job I took was a massive step towards my career and where I am now. I have no regrets.
Sometimes you have to accept that you are going to have to let down people no matter how much you don't want to.0 -

Dodgy backyard employer? You mean a small firm that doesn't come with all the bells and whistles?
You have so much to learn. Perhaps not making generalisations could be one of them.0
