I am not desperate for the money but very annoyed and feeling played so happy to take them to court and not get any sum.

I would of thought their interest in your partners visa etc is perfectly justified, if their visa is not in order then neither is yours as without them you have no legal right of residency or work.
I would also think your determination of carrying on this path would deem you unemployable, agencies and employers would not be interested in someone they would undoubtedly see as a trouble maker....You may also want to check any future visa requirements for both of you won't be effected.0 -

You are not listening. Take them to court and you will pay AT LEAST £1200 for the court costs. That is a minimum. And the lawyer won't be paying that for you even if you can find one. And to be clear - even if you win that £1200 is gone and won't be coming back - tribunals almost NEVER award costs. Plus, they won't be the only one with a load of hassle. You will be spending 9 - 18 months of your life on this, every spare moment - getting a lawyer does not mean you make a claim and forget all about it. It eats up your life and your energy (and is something very hard to keep off the radar of another employer, who may decide that if you are litigation happy it is best to have rid of you before you can make a claim against them!). They won't be "paying" for anything - or at least, no more so than you will be. You are not talking about justice, you are talking about revenge. And that means you are making decisions in anger. If you are very lucky, a lawyer won't let you do that. But plenty will - in the end you may well be paying for that bit yourself!0

Quite - but as bugslet has said, perhaps now is the "quietly shakes head" stage. The OP is too angry to listen to any other rationale than their own, and anger and revenge is never a good starting point for common sense.0 -
Ps - one last point to the OP. I noticed that you said you need a clear CRB. Of course they are DBS now, not CRB. But the same principle applies - they cannot be guaranteed for any foreign national because we have no access to the criminal records of other countries. This would also be a perfectly legitimate reason for an employer - possibly even a higher manager or HR - to refuse employment. An uncheckable past is, in the end, a risk the employer takes and they are entitled to choose not to take the risk.0

It's a daily occurrence in the world of jobseekers, you've been lucky and received a goodwill gesture for inconvenience, no admission of guilt on their part.
It's obviously not a racial and discrimination issue as they have been aware of your race etc from the very beginning.0
