Conservatory Quote. Too cheap or about right?

Had our first quote the other day for 4.5x3.5m conservatory, dwarf wall, base, drains moved, electrics, plastering and glass roof. Quoted about 6.2k all in. I was expecting it to be a lot more but i have no previous experience to go on. Due another quote later in the week but just wanted to get an idea in the meantime. Anything i should be looking out for or suspicious of if it is a low price?

That does seem low considering all the building work.
Just take your time and ask for references etc

Just to give a bit more detail on the tradesman, he was found on mybuilder.com and seems to have good reviews. Its a guy who currently works for someone and has been for over 15 years but is looking for jobs to start out on his own, he seemed to know what he was on about and said receipts would be provided for all materials.

Have you seen the quality of the conservatory being supplied? They can vary wildly. And do you have a breakdown of the actual works (for example, foundation depth)? On the face of it, it seems low, considering the conservatory itself, to buy, would probably be about £4k - £5k, but maybe your builder is able to source it at cost price.

The only way you'll really know is by asking to see an example of a finished product and ensuring the conservatory is built to the correct building regulations. In fact, I would advise getting the council's building regs department involved in the process, just to be sure everything is being done correctly, if you are unsure of how it should be done yourself.
  • That seems suspiciously cheap to me. I would expect a 16sq mt conservatory with building work to be north of £10k.
    Thinking critically since 1996....
