Can't agree. Slower car doesn't catch anything to overtake, therefore spends less time on the wrong side of the road. Any modern car is capable of matching traffic speed on a slip road. I've had my share of GT's and quick 'luxury' cars over the past 50 years (loveliest to drive was a straight six Daimler with a Wilson pre selector box) but reliability is now the priority. Each to their own!

Cars have moved on in the last 70+ years since the time of a Daimler six with a Wilson 4 speed pre selector. Cars can be fast, safe and reliable - you dont have to sacrifice one for another.

Sorry to hear you're stuck in something slow but worthy now that you cant overtake in, although as you say - each to their own.

    I would contend that.

I would say there are many cars that struggle to come off a roundabout at maybe 30MPH then get accelerated enough down the sliproad to be able to merge into maybe 70MPH traffic.

Even moreso when usually driven by people that seem to oblivious to other traffic.

Actually, I can't see the point in mapping. There's a 70MPH top limit, and an awful lot of 60, 50, 40, 30 and even 20MPH limits. So, I've mapped my car and it now does 147MPH and 0 - 60 in 4 seconds. Well, big deal, when am I going to get the use of this? When, in the past, I needed more power for towing, I bought a bigger engined car. No prob.

The climate has changed on speeding. Any motorbike over about 600 cc, provided it's not one of those feet out cruisers, will perform as well as a racing car, but the law takes a very dim view of using it. Some bloke in England has just been sent to prison for doing 110 in a 30 zone. Well, he probably deserves it, but suspended sentences for speeding on the motorways have been handed out here recently as well.
I was out on a triumph 675 a while back and I hardly got into top gear. Goodbye licence if you're anyway careless.

Noone ever maps or chips a car for improved top end speed. Its about extra torque in gear which translates to better overtaking capability and more relaxed driving, so Tickeds comment about 147MPH top speed is irrelevant.

Likewise if its all about 4 second 0-60 times for an individual, they're unlikely to want or have a turbo diesel in the first place.

That's what Suzuki Hayabusas were built for - if you're going easy on the right hand. Sub 3 seconds on most of the bigger bikes if you're not.

Fair play for trying the 675! I sat on a friends Fireblade with every intention of taking it for a spin, then found that the gears had moved to the opposite side! Swallowed my pride and chickened out. :A
Anyone got a Bantam they don't want?
