He wasn't and he'd already stated his choice of machine before you posted.

I'm guessing that unlike you, apparently, he was able to read and spot a link.

well if he had , he could not use it and was still asking

    "UPDATE
I decided to buy the HP with an i3 processor. I couldn't really justify the extra expense for an i5 for what I'll be using the laptop for.
Lastly, my last laptop had a second generation i3 processor. Will the new 5th generation i3 be much of an improvement? "

so I posted the same link as you and told him to compare them

    why be so antagonistic ?

I'm about to purchase a new laptop but I can't decide whether to get the i3 processor or the i5. I have two laptops that I have shortlisted.

As an AMD aficionado, I officially lodge my protest.

What's wrong with the AMD A10-8700P?
    AMD A10-8700P Passmark 3571 rank 609

It's faster than either intel CPUs. It's also got the latest battery saving tech, boasting 6Hours 30Minutes.

    It's brandism, that's what it is ;).

Because from your previous posting history with me and others I assumed you like it.

thank you , I had no intention of under minding your post , as explained above , I felt that by asking his question again , the OP had not spotted your link , so I gave the full link in order to make it visible to him.
from that point , you have been antagonistic.

  • The whole intel 'i' series is an excellent study in turning a really good simplification of products into a misleading quagmire of confusing SKUs. For example, I have a desktop 'i7' with 8 cores, and a laptop that also has an 'i7' with only 2.

Not so, manufacturers own figures suggest 4h 30min so that means even less just like car MPG figures.

Also comes with only a single stick of RAM which is bad news for AMD APUs as their memory controllers are very poor and require every bit of memory bandwidth they can lay their hands on, especially to make decent use of the IGP. So it's critical for them to have very fast RAM (2,133mhz ideally) but Toshiba only supply it with 1600mhz RAM.

Didn't go so well for Michael Larabel over at Phoronix testing one of these:

Faster speed will drain the battery quicker. 2133MHz for this price range is probably a mismatch. Unless it's a gaming laptop, 2133MHz is probably for desktops. I do have an AMD A10-7850K desktop with dual channel G.Skill Ripjaw that overclocks to 2133MHz when I need some speed.

Toshiba quality really isn't what they used to be.
Actually, I am typing on a Toshiba. Does feel cheap, but then I got it cheap: Argos promotion price plus cashback deal.
I upgraded from the original one stick 4GB. What with a timely Amex/Amazon My Offers cashback and selling the old stick on eBay, the 8GB dual channel upgrade only cost me about £10. Free delivery!

AMD is always going to lose out when competing for top performance, but for low to mid-range, AMD offers better value for money. The A10-8700P is getting good press.

Yes it will when it's still using antique 28nm fab tech, they may have a chance at 14nm but until then it's performance per watt is lousy.

Hopefully with the shrink down to 14nm for AMD they might start routinely offering eDRAM on their dies, which as a level 4 cache and for IGP offers some excellent performance gains.

I'd really like to see properly competitive AMD solutions to Intel's wares and some decent downward pricing pressure, let's see what Zen brings later in the year.
