How long is a "reasonable time" for a phone repair?

Hi all. Last month I took my phone to an independent high street repair shop to have a hardware fault fixed. They carried out the repair, I paid, and I picked it back up the same day.
Later that same day, the repair became faulty. Initially they refused to accept liability and said that there was no warranty. After a lengthy but civil email conversation with the company director, they agreed to take it back in for repair again.
However, more than two weeks have now passed, and although I have rang on several separate occasions for an update on its progress, they keep telling me that they "still haven't had chance to look at it yet" and "we will call you with an update in a day or two".
Quoting the consumer rights act "The service must be carried out in a reasonable time", how long should I give them before I start to take this further? I know Christmas and New Year have reduced the number of working days, but if it's clear that they can carry out the repair in one day (albeit not properly it may seem), I feel like they are taking me for ride by keeping me waiting this long.
Thanks in advance.

Holidays finished now give them until next week and if no return send a LBA that is a letter before action .
Though i am not sure what action you want to take bar the small claims court .0 -
As for the guarantee, phone shops I use usually offer one!0

Yes, they do normally offer a guarantee, but "this particular fault isn't covered as it shouldn't happen". Well it did. The fault in question by the way is the battery terminal on an iPhone 4S.
I'm still being fobbed off with "we haven't had chance to look at it yet", 16 days later. I'll give them until Monday and then I'll take it further I think.0
