    when she had to confirm her ID they would've explained she'll get a letter and to pay up/appeal.

    in short, you have no evidence/recourse so just pay up and take it as a lesson.

    be thankful you're not in London. I had to pay £125!

    Or perhaps their bureaucracy has been inefficient; the "revenue protection officer" may have failed to explain what he was doing...
  • Sounds like she was travelling on a child ticket when 16. Ticket withdrawn, zero fared and billed for the actual fare plus admin costs.
