I've not received an electric bill for a year!

We weren't charged for our electric for about 2yrs and only found our like yourselves when we moved suppliers. EDF had been reading the meter and it was given to them but because they had our account as not active they just ignored the readings. We ended up negotiating a figure with them. The rules have change now and they only have a limited time to bill you ( I can't remember whether the 12 months someone else has mentioned is the figure or not.
My advise would either get in touch with the regulator who will advice and if necessary act on your behalf or send a final reading to Powergen (and then wait for them to contact you and hopefully it will fall out of the time limit) In the meantime chance supplier and give your final/new reading to your new company and then check they have set up DD etc properly. When we telephoned the regulator for advice I was told that it's a very common problem. Best of luckLook after the pennies and the £££s will look after themselves0 -
Hi Cobham 78,
Missing admin eh...whoever the landlady spoke to probably never did anything. However you need to rememebr that your landlady could only have closed her own account, not started yours for you. So, you will find that the account has stayed closed with no new tenant on their system.
The 12 month rule is now per Ofgem, but I can tell you now, unless you state you are aware of it, they will try to bill you! Before thr 12 month rule, Suppliers often wrote off old debts anyway as they can't justify dumping a bill when they are also liable to monitor their records.
As for the consumtion, maybe no one has been reading the meter hence nothing has come to light or maybe the Supplier hasn't had readings off the local data collectors. Who knows.
You need to confirm the Supplier first. Complete rubbish that they have told you about a so called admin issue. Ever meter point in the country is registered to someone all the time. A few years back there were isseus like this but every Supplier had to do their bit to register per new industry rules. You need to contact your local MPAS who will know who you are with. I don't know where you are to advise on this so contact your local electricity distributor (those who you see replacing the cables in your area) as MPAS is part of them so they will be able to give you the number.
Good luck...:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0
