British Gas Bill - no gas use listed
Options
Hi
I have a dual fuel tariff with British Gas - it's a fixed deal til March 2016. I am trying to compare prices but a) their bill is now listed as an "energy" bill that does not automatically separate electricity and gas and also b) when I did see my usage for the past 12 months, I could only "gas" in the third quarter i.e. the first 2 quarters appeared to show I only paid for electricity and not any gas.
Any ideas why ?
Thanks

1. BG didn't start to supply you until the 3rd quarter
OR
2. More likely BG mucked it up.
When did you get a final bill from your previous Gas supplier and what date did it state it was closed?
I assume that the direct debits have been taken to cover the estimated costs of both gas and electric and that your last bill is showing a massive credit balance?
I would start an official complaint if BG haven't been billing for gas and make them aware that they have to correct your account. Don't phone them, only do things in writing and if they phone you, tell them to put it in writing. You need a paper trial for a complaint.
Try Resolver if you need help to get the complaint lodged, there is a link from this MSE article http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/site/resolver?utm_source=MSE_Newsletter&utm_medium=bignote-one&utm_term=22-Apr-15-lt&utm_campaign=site&utm_content=7#relationship0 -
It sounds like they have switched you from separate gas and electricity bills to a single bill, and have used the old electricity account as the basis.
This probably happened in the third quarter which is why you can't see further back than that on the open account.
All the information will still exist on the old, closed, gas account so BG will be able to give it to you if you ask.
You should also get a projection of the next 12 months for each fuel on the bill so you could use this if you don't want to call/email/write/webchat BG.0 -
More than likely the last answer is correct
This will happen when accounts are merged from single fuel accounts to combined energy accounts.

Sainsbury's energy have joint Gas and electricity bills as standard so I don't think it would be that you had separate bills beforehand.
When switching suppliers certain information is passed between the suppliers via 3rd party industry bodies, if some of this information is not received then this can prevent the account being set up.
Sometimes this will be picked up automatically as it looks like has happened with you, but others will need to call the supplier and get them to chase up these industry bodies for the information.
Best thing to do would be call your supplier to see why and check that you have been making payments towards the gas since you started or you may be faced with a shortfall on a monthly direct debit.0 -
Sorry I meant to add that as sainsbury's are British, that I'm guessing that new British Gas customers now have combined bills too!0
