no, but if Sky get their way you will lose 3 channels

http://www.southgatearc.org/news/february2007/sky_mpeg4_switch.htm

Sky have just announced that Sky News, Sky-3 and Sky Sports News are going to be withdrawn from Freeview and the capacity used for a new subscription services, Sky-1 / Sports / Movies, using the MPEG-4 standard.
None of the existing Set-Top Boxes (STB's) will be able to receive these channels and Sky say once the service has launched manufacturers will produce new compatible set-top boxes and other DTT receivers.
Because of its more efficient compression, MPEG-4 allows many more channels to be available on a multiplex. In the coming years, it is likely we will see other media companies follow Sky's example and change to MPEG-4 which would render existing STB's useless.

IIRC, Sky have gone very quiet about withdrawing their services (the above article is from February) as the regulator reminded them that releasing free to view channels was an obligation of their license and if they withdrew their free channels, their license to broadcast to the UK could be revoked. I believe they set a date in early July to withdraw them and this has now passed with no withdrawal.

This is from memory and I'm not good at remembering what happened yesterday, let alone months ago so I'm happy to be corrected! If I have time later, I shall try to find the articles that gave this information.

Replacing Film 4+1, which I'd've preffered to keep...

I didn't know that :(
I must admit my freeview box is broken, and I didn't know that.

OK - a quick look tells me that the only thing I can find regarding this are statements that Ofcom are investigating Skys proposal from a competitive point of view and are expected to rule on it early next year following a public consultation this autumn. Sky can do nothing in the way of changes until Ofcom release their statement/ruling next year.

Virgin 1 will be a new entertainment channel launching on Freeview, Cable, Sky etc. replacing FTN. It's Virgin Media's attempt to make a rival to Sky 1.
• Yeah, they did the same when they replaced men and motors, advertised the new channel with no mention that a channel was being removed.

There are some new channels mentioned here however...

UK G2 on Freeview?

There are a couple of rumours out there that UKTV G2 may be coming to Freeview in the future - reportedly replacing UKTV Bright Ideas. No confirmation or timeframe at this time.

Nuts TV comes to Freeview from 12th September 2007. Broadcasting "lads" content from 9pm to 1am, could this be the new Men and Motors? Source

Virgin channel coming to Freeview

Virgin has announced that it will launch a new channel, Virgin 1 on Freeview later in 2007. The channel will show drama, comedy and factual programming, and will replace FTN.
• I enjoy watching the Poker which is shown regularly on FTN. Does anyone know if this channel is being rebranded as Virgin1 or just simply removed?
• UKTV G2 is coming to freeview in october....but its changing its name to DAVE. its about the third name change this channel has had over the last few years but as long as the content stays the same it should be good
