Broken GHD's

Daughters GHD hair straighteners have suddenly stopped working - not used every day but we have had them for 2 years & 3 months. On their website it says their items have a 2 year guarantee, but am I correct in thinking that under the consumer goods act (not sure if that is the right name) that items should last for 5 years otherwise they are not fit for purpose? Wondering if I can return them so they can repair them free of charge quoting this ? Anyone any experience of repairs / returns to GHD ?

It's up to 6 years but after the first 6 months you would need to get an independent report detailing the fault. I think you're going to struggle as you've had it for over 2 years. Have you contacted GHD?
    Come on you Irons

As the two years are up the guarentee has expired.
The Consumer Goods Act is for items purchased after 01/10/15 so you rely on the safe of goods act.
As you've had them for more than six months. It's down to you to prove they've failed due to an inherent fault.

Unfortunately your understanding is very simplistic and not accurate.

You have up to 6 years to bring a claim using the sale of goods act. That does not mean goods should last 6 years, just after 6 years you cannot use it. For example, a £5 pair of straighteners would not be expected to last as long as GHD's.

The warranty with GHD is completely separate to this and as it is over the 2 years, your guarantee is up.

Under the SOGA, as others have stated, GHD are within their legal rights to ask you to provide a independent report saying that when you bought the GHD's something was not right which has caused this failure 2yrs and 3 months down the line. This is very unlikely to happen with such a old, used and portable/easy to drop/chuck about item.

You can ask what your options are, they may repair them.

If they ask for a report (an engineers report) then as McGarry says you need to prove they've failed due to an inherent faul so get a report from a firm or someone who would repair electrical appliances.

Also your SOGA rights are with the retailer, so unless you bought it direct from GHD you would need to pursue the retailer.

I got mine repaired at a specialised repair shop (which I googled for) for £30, might be worth a try
