I recently purchased a timeshare and I really don't want it, it was a bad idea. Can I just cancel my payments and get away with it? The company is in the USA

How are we supposed to know? If the timeshare company doesn't take action against it's debtors overseas then yes, you may get away with it, but if they do then they'll probably win and you'll have to not only carry on paying the contracted amount but you're likely to have to pay their legal costs.0

You need to tell us a lot more before anyone can give further advice. How long ago is 'recent' within the last week, year or five years ago? Could you establish any misleading information that you were given, did you pay by credit card, where is the timeshare in the US? Did you buy specific weeks or have you just bought points? In the EU there are specific safeguards in law, in the US it is usually "caveat emptor", buyer beware!0

They have my address and phone number, that is it. I have signed legal documents so I am tied in. But, if I was to move address and change my number they could never contact me. Nothing shows up on my credit file.0

If it was only that simple we would all be doing it!0 -
Greenbean85, you didn't answer any of the questions we asked, so there is no point in trying to help you. I suspect they have a lot more information about you, how did you pay for it, as that will allow them to trace you.0
