Changed date of redundancy

Hi all

My girlfriend was given notice of redundancy in December and the letter she received from her employer states that she will be made redundant on January 16th. For the redundancy package, she is getting 11 weeks redundancy pay along with 11 weeks pay in lieu of notice.

This morning, her manager has told her that the shop she works in is closing a week early so will be redundant from January 9th and will be getting the same payment already offered. Does anyone know if this is allowed? I would have thought that with her being given a written notice of redundancy, this would be binding and so even if they close a week early they would still have to pay her until the specified date on top of whatever redundancy they've offered.

Any thoughts on this are appreciated.

    How many are involved?

AIUI as they are paying PILON they can terminate at any time as long as they comply with any consultation requirements.

in effect you have not been given real notice as they are buying it out.

A company can withdraw a redundancy at any time and issue a new one.
