G_M (he) never buys an off-the-shelf cake.
And certainly not Mr K..............0 -
To be honest I'd say no if you are that worried.Spelling courtesy of the whims of auto correct...
Pet Peeves.... queues, vain people and hypocrites ..not necessarily in that order.0 -
Simplest, possibly, but hardly the best. Are you going to complain about messy pointing that you have to look at when the wall is built with overhand pointing?
Why not just discuss with your neighbours, as mentioned above? Take photos and draw up an agreement that what is shown in the photos is the current condition of the garden and fence and that any accidental damage is rectified. It is not in the builder's interest to get a reputation for causing unnecessary damage.
It is highly unlikely that the fence posts will have to come down anyway, they just want to take the fence panels off to make construction easier and pointing neater. It really is not the big deal you are making it out to be and I severely hope you do not require a favour from your neighbours at any time in the future as I feel you are being a little unreasonable at refusing to even discuss options or find out more information from the neighbour/builders. Talk to them, let them know what you would be happy with (no damage, no access through your side gate etc). If they agree, great - no issue. If they don't agree, then you have a genuine reason to say no, not just an "I can't be bothered to talk to them or deal with this so I'll just say no".
I do wonder if I may be being unreasonable. However, having worked right through Xmas and new year and finishing nights this morning I managed all of 3 hours kip whilst they started building and making a racket-so perhaps it's not me that's unreasonable.
It just doesn't sit right with me-this is about them wanting to maximise the size of their conservatory and without a formal agreement I'm not happy with my fence coming down especially if Im not in.0 -
I agree that this needn't be an issue.
Be a human and talk to them in a reasonable manner. Discuss your concerns and make sure they agree what they can and can't do.
Otherwise, if you ever need a favour in future or want to do something similar you can guess what the answer will be?Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
Sounds like the fence isn't the issue but your neighbours building a conservatory.0

Have you spoken to your neighbours about the fact that you work nights? Do they know this? Were they aware that you were working nights during xmas and NY? There may be some less noisy work the builders can do first thing and leave some of the noisier bits until later? If they don't know, you can hardly call them unreasonable for not being a mind reader.
Unfortunately, daytime hours are considered 'reasonable' hours to make noise. Some sort of building is almost unavoidable in neighbourhoods these days, as people extend rather than move. Just remember that it won't be forever and the quicker they get on with it, the quicker it will be over with.0 -

Yes they know what I do-I wasn't told when it would start, but that isn't the issue.0 -
OP said the houses are detached, how come the neighbours' conservatory is so close to the boundary that that they want/need to remove his fence to build it?0
