Late payment marker???

Hi all just wondering if there is anything I can do? I balance transferred to a fluidity card from vanquis in September & set up s/o for monthly payments. In November s/o payment was made on 16th the same day as statement produced so payment was allocated to the previous month. To further compound I was on holiday until 11th of December so didn't realise until 13th December that the payment had gone to previous month.
I immediately made a payment & contacted them on the 14th. The S/O was duly changed to the 18th of the month, late fee refunded & 0% interest put back on. Will a late marker be put on my credit files? The customer service officer seemed to think it would as I was over a week late in making the payment even though I explained I was out of the country. Any advice as to what I should do?

You're not really helping yourself here in your use of SOs to pay the bill. Allowing an extra 2 days simply isn't a large enough margin, eg if Bank Holidays, weekends, or both(!) get in the way some months down the line...let alone systems issues with MBNA (I assume it's the Fluid card, which is run by MBNA, and not the "Fluidity" card you mention?).

    Best advice?...

    1. Pay by (min) direct debit, and make any extra payments manually, not by SO). You've already been advised to do this on your other duplicate post on the credit card forum.

    2. Wait a couple of months and check your CRA reports (all 3) for any late payment markers.
  • Thanks Yorkshire boy, with the S/O it is sent as a faster payment & shows as being received by mbna on the same day? Also payment is due by 4th of the month & I pay on 18th. I'll keep an eye on it & hopefully won't have that problem again. Thanks for the advice re CRA's I will check in a couple of months. Thank you

It's irrelevant what your excuse is. The bank has been flexible ad let you off. However your late payment is an accurate record as to how you've maintained your account. If the data wasn't accurate it wouldn't have any value to other users.

When it comes to CRA financial surveillance there is little or no slack. A single mistake or an oversight, either of which can be, and often are, the result of complexities within the product T&Cs, flag you up to all and sundry as a potential bad payer. The system is broken and badly regulated. Unfortunately until such time as these systemic problems are dealt with, if they ever are, it's something we've all got to live with.
