home insurance and claiming on a sofa

Afternoon folks, got a problem with my sofa (accidental damage) which I believe is covered on my insurance, however will my insurance company entertain me if the sofa in question is only 6months old and bought through credit...still 18months left on paying for it

TIA!

Don't see why not. What's your concern?

They will cover restoration of your sofa or replacement based on the retail cost of a similar sofa (like for like) if it can not be restored.

Your payments and outstanding credit on the damage sofa is none of the insurers concern and does not form part of your claim. The repayments are between you and the company you have the credit agreement with.

If its worth £500 and you paid £5000 through credit it wont matter to them its a £500 sofa they will fix or replace.

With the risk of increased premiums is it cheaper to repair yourself?

  • I guess the important question is how damaged is the sofa? What happened? and what would the cost be to put this right yourself?
