Hello
Okay i will start with the fact my husband purchased a tumble dryer from john lewis. They then decided to charge twice, all that has been explained to me by customer services is they hold his money we have heard of a term called ring fencing however have no clue how this all works.
The part we are very frustrated by is the fact after rent and bills he is now overdrawn and john lewis say they can not do anything!!!
Is there anything we can do?!
Thank you!!

You can push for any overdraft charges to be put right as long as you can show proof that the 2nd payment they took put you in the red and actually did cost you additional money, They should by rights give you something here as gog in any event.0

Write to John Lewis headed COMPLAINT
Give them details and actual costs incurred.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Call the bank.
Ask for chargeback (unauthorised/duplicate transaction) and for all charges and interest refunded.0 -

It appears the money has not been taken but authorized twice. So twice the amount has been "ring-fenced" (reserved, put aside, ear-marked). If the money for the second authorisation is not called-in, that ring-fencing will fall off after a week or so. You won't be overdrawn, as the second amount has not been charged and presumably never will be charged.
Nevertheless, you won't have access to the money until the second ring-fencing is cancelled, either by the merchant or due to the time elapsed. Contact John Lewis again, as they are in a position to cancel an erronious authorisation.0
