Problems using messenger for mac

I wonder if anyone can help me - I'm trying to use messenger for mac and I cannot get passed the sign on screen - I get an error message saying that it cannot connect and that I am not conected to the internet when I am.

I access the internet via a t-mobile web n walk usb modem and I presume I may need to change some settings to get this to work? any ideas? I understand that this is quite a common problem for a lot of users of messenger for mac.

Well I think it's a networking problem rather than messenger, but I'll point out that AdiumX for the Mac is an excellent Instant Messaging program that does several different systems - Yahoo, MSN etc. Maybe try installing that, but I suspect that it will have the same problem.
Instant Messengers use a certain port, and I would imagine that T-Mobile (along with all the other mobile networks who really shaft customers over bandwidth) have blocked that port, or blocked IM traffic some other way as they see it as competition to texting, and thus, even more money!
I think you should have a good read thru their terms and conditions and see if there's anything they don't allow.

I tried Adium and had the same problem. It is a networking problem as T-mobile don't block the port. Just can't figure what settings I need - grr!!!

What you need is to ditch the USB modem and get a router. Macs and USB modems cause more bother than they are worth. Try the Netgear dg834g router or something similar and all will be well.
Oh and ditch the MSN and use AdiumX as it's much better.
