Medion laptop fail after a few days!

On 1st Dec I bought my grandson a laptop from Medionshop uk as a Christmas present, after he opened it on the 25thDec it worked for a few days then failed to load windows or do anything (apart from showing the bios screen) I contacted Medion support and tried the things they suggested but it was still no good and they said it has to go to Germany for reassessment.
I contacted the Medion sales office in Swindon and discussed it with them asking for a replacement or my money back but they refused and insist that it goes back to Germany.
IMHO it seems unfair that they won't replace it after such short use, it was my Grandsons Christmas present and he wanted it for school use, you can imagine he is most disappointed.
Had I bought it from a physical shop I am sure I could take it back and receive a replacement it seems unfair having to have it sent back to Germany or am I being unreasonable?

They are entitled to confirm the fault before offering a remedy. As Medion are based in Germany they are sending it there. Any shop would want to confirm a fault before offering a remedy. Often electrical goods are sent back to the manufacturer for a fault to be confirmed, commonly this would be somewhere in the UK but it is not unreasonable to send it to somewhere in Europe.0

Pretty sure you can insist on a refund as its within 30 days.
Send the laptop back and enclose a letter before action requesting a refund. Sounds like a failed hard drive.0 -
what were their suggestionsDon't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0

@bsod I would hope that Medion would have suggested an ATX reset as it should be common knowledge for someone working on a computer support line. Although the OP could try it.0

I tried what the tech support told me to do if you hold down F11 whilst preesing the on button it is supposed to offer reset to factory but as always it just defaults to the bios, pretty sure the SSD drive is duff, the SSD is boot drive plus it has a 1Tb data drive, the 1Tb drive shows in the drive listings and boot order in bios but the SSD boot drive is not shown at all.0

Isn't there options in BIOS to reset to factory default? I admit, its been a while since I ventured into mine, but I'm pretty sure thats where the drive recovery etc options are.
In my experience, Medion are really good when it comes to repairs and replacement. However, you technically shouldn't be told to send it to Germany - germany is the manufacturer, you didn't buy it from them, you bought it from a UK company that has a UK address and is a registered company in the UK. They're effectively cutting out the middle man (ie if you send it to medion UK, they'd then likely send it on to germany rather than do the repairs themselves). You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
