Have to upgrade to condensing boiler.
Looked at Which and Worcester get the top rating however looking at other review sites they also get slatings.
Ive had two companies round so far to quote, one was recommended by a friend and he's recommended a Worcester and wont fit anything else. Cost £2100 and 7 yr guarantee on boiler only.
Second guy recommends a Viessmann and slats Worcester, only fits Viessmann. Again on Which they also get top ratings. Cost £2300 but it has 10 yr guarantee on parts and labour although I must have annual service by Viessmann trained engineer at £55 per year.
Obviously the second one seems better value due to 10 yr guarantee....?
Any idea why they would only fit certain makes of boiler.....?
Any one have experience of Viessmann ( German make)...?:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

To clarify - no one has told me to upgrade it but it 12 yeras old and will cost £500 to fix it. I thought it would be more cost effective to put this £500 towards upgrading to a new modern condensing one.
It may last another 12 years with the odd repair here and there, obviously I would like a crystal ball for the future...!!
Quote for repair was from HSE as I'm in a homecare contract with them.0 -
Thought it might be British Gas.
They are well known for looking for problems in an attempt to convince you to buy new.
They condemned my boiler saying it had a carbon monoxide leak and could not be repaired and no parts available (it is 35 years old). They said they could not even access the parts to repair them. They capped it off and suggested I get a new one (this was just before winter).
I did not believe them.
I then got a local heating engineer round to check it out and attempt repair. They accessed the parts immediately and although they looked fine, replaced them anyway with new ones (they were basic parts which still available). No carbon monoxide detected was detected after firing it back up. It was all up and running perfectly within 1 hour.
A two page complaint to British Gas followed and my costs were refunded.
Get a local gas safe engineer (look for recommendations) to give a quote. Stay away from large national firms (who usually have sales targets).
It is not economical to replace a boiler when it can still be repaired.

How much is your home care?
Why not cancel it and put that same amount into a savings account. That way, it is there for any future repairs and if there are none to be had, after 5 years, you have enough for a new boiler if it does finally fail.0 -
Get another quote! There are service kits available for most of the "valves" rather than complete replacements!
Example, Landlord I do work for has a daughter in London, boiler needed a new "valve" (it turned out to be a faulty diverter valve) and was quoted £300+ for new valve and £150 for the labour! I advised service kit containing new diaphragm, spring etc. Engineer kicked off but relented and fitted service kit, final bill £185!
The heat insulation panels crack over time, its normal, unless they have cracked all the way through or are starting to fall into the burner it is not a problem! New insulation panels don't cost a lot. Sounds like someone is looking to line his pockets!
Get another quote before you dive into a new boiler.0
