Hi,
I am looking for some general advice regarding help for a single student. I am in the process of going through a divorce, and due to be leaving the marital home in April. I am a full time student, with no children, but have two dogs. I am unable to keep the current house that I am in, unless the landlord agrees to open the house to allow another person to move in to split the costs of rent. I am unable to work at until mid-April, then over the summer period I am hoping to pick up more hours from the job to be able to save for the next academic year. I am at the half way point of my degree and have a year and a half left to go. I currently get £300 per month, although this is means tested on my ex's income, so that should raise once I have heard back from them as I have re-applied as a single applicant.
Is there any help that is available to students who do not have children? I have done some research but the calculators that I have found have stated that they aren't appropriate for those who are students. I have contacted the university to receive help from them, but until I get the tenancy agreement in my name, they are unable to help as they base it purely on rent and food costs alone.
Any advice or pointers on where to look would be gratefully received.
Thank you.

All I can think of is the Access to Learning Fund.
You won't be entitled to benefits as a full time student unless you have a disability.0 -
You almost certainly need to move to somewhere more appropriate unless you can get in a lodger (or 2). Could your ex have the dogs until you finish your degree?0

I will look it up - thank you!
No - I don't have a disability.missbiggles1 wrote: »You almost certainly need to move to somewhere more appropriate unless you can get in a lodger (or 2). Could your ex have the dogs until you finish your degree?
I have looked, but the only problem is most of the places that are affordable don't let you take pets. I have asked him and he has said no - he is pretty much just denying all knowledge of them even though we got them together.0
