Newbie PPI

Well I guess I've always had my head in the sand over PPI but over Christmas I was told I should investigate/claim as I do believe this was charged over a mortgage and bank loan in the past, but I don't have any records. I apologise to be asking what must be a dumb questions now:
1-can I investigate on closed mortgage and bank accounts that I have little knowledge of now?
2-can I confidently use one of these PPI chasing companies and if so any recommendations?
3-do these companies charge an upfront fee, and no fee no win or what ?
4-can they chase up any PPI owing me with little of my details.
I really appreciate any advice.

  • Plenty of pages on here for PPI reclaiming and the advice is do this yourself and save any fee's.

You will need to try and find some information. Do you have any paperwork or bank statements showing you paying PPI? It won't matter if the accounts are now closed.

As above, Claims Companies can only work with the information that you give them.

How long ago were these accounts closed? And just because you might have paid PPI doesn't mean you can automatically claim it back, you need to have a reason why you think it was mis-sold to you in the first place.

    That isnt how it works.

There is no pot of money waiting to be claimed. There is no-one owed money. The process requires you making a complaint to the firm in question giving your reasons for complaint. If the firm finds your complaint is valid then they will pay redress. if not, they will reject your complaint.

Claims companies require you to tell them who the firm is that you wish to complain to and provide details that allow them to build your complaint.

Yes, you can be confident a company will take approximately a third of any redress (plus tax!) should it be awarded. The only recommendation is for you to complain yourself.

Do note that if you have no information, documentation or knowledge of PPI you may have had then no company can provide it for you...
