Tesco Direct Debits 1st to 4th Jan 16

Just checked my Tesco accounts as Direct Debits should have gone out today, but they haven't.
Checking online shows that the next date for the DD to be taken is 4th Feb?
Have rung them and been told that because today is a bank holiday in Scotland that is the reason. I pointed out that just because it's a bank holiday, I would have expected the DD to be taken tomorrow, on the 5th, same as when it has fallen on a Saturday or Sunday.
They are currently looking into it and investigating how many people this has affected. To date it is not just myself, but also my wife and her mother. I assume everyone who have DD's between the 1st and 4th may be affected.
Worth checking your account.
I will update when they come back to me. But if it remains it will seriously screw up all my accounts that require the DD's for interest.

Can I assume that you mean DD “pulls" into Tesco savings accounts?
If so I have had the same problem, although for me it is not a problem as such, as the DD was only required for a switch bonus, which I received on 30th December. My DD was dated for 2nd Jan so I thought it would go in early hours this morning (4th). I will check mine again tomorrow.0 -
Tesco have already sent their request for January to your bank. That's why their next date correctly shows as February.
Your bank has the request in the queue and will process it as soon as they are working again, either tonight or tomorrow night.
Nothing to worry about, it's totally normal.0 -
I'm sure every month that, once the wheels are in motion for a direct debit to be taken by tesco (ie in the days or so preceding payment), their online banking moves on to showing the next month's payment instead, despite their not being a trace of that month's payment yet.
Wait 24-48 hours and you'll see the payment has gone out (probably tomorrow) and it'll still show the next payment is February throughout.
It's a quirk and will happen every month.
Also, what colsten says.0 -
@ B_G_B, yes it's the "pulls" into my accounts to qualify for interest conditions on Lloyds Club and Halifax Reward accounts etc.
@ colsten - thanks. it's just strange as the Lloyds don't treat today as a Bank Holiday and if they have my DD pull in the queue, I would have expected it to have gone sometime after midnight and show as deducted in my account by now.
@bsms1147 - hopefully that is the case and everything will be sorted tomorrow. Just thought I should mention it in case it affects others0 -
I wouldn't want Tesco Bank looking over my savings accounts activity!info_addict wrote: »Have rung them

Tesco have clearly messed up here (most likely submitted the files to BACS a day late last week) as today's Scottish Bank Holiday has nothing to do with the DD process (see your account T&Cs and the info available on the various industry DD websites). The transfers will happen tomorrow.0 -
I suspect Tesco have not messed up. I suspect it is just a case of the potential transactions being submitted but not yet showing due to differences in the bank holidays in Scotland and England. i.e. their system shows next one is Feb as they have submitted the Jan requests but the Jan one is delayed until tomorrow.
Back in my banking days, payment delays were common when the transaction covered one party in Scotland when they had a different bank holiday to England.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). My DDs usually taken on the 1st are showing up both in BOS and Tesco. DDs dated 3rd between Tesco and Santander are not showing up yet.
As others have said it will sort itself out tomorrow probably. I don't see where Tesco has messed up either.0 -

I don't agree. They have sent their BACS requests, the banks have them, and the banks are processing them as and when. Most likely tonight or tomorrow night.
As Tesco have sent their request for January 1/2/3/4 (and probably 5 and 6 now as well) payments, it is clear that the next monthly DD due payment is February.
You could argue they should not update their next due date until they have received the last DD (if there is a last DD) but their systems have always processed things like that.0 -
"Most likely"! That's not an acceptable situation surely?I don't agree. They have sent their BACS requests, the banks have them, and the banks are processing them as and when. Most likely tonight or tomorrow night.
The 5th should have been sent last Thursday, and the 6th today, if my understanding is correct. As Tesco have sent their request for January 1/2/3/4 (and probably 5 and 6 now as well) payments, it is clear that the next monthly DD due payment is February.
Here's the timescale:
Collection date....................Submission date
1st....................................30/12
2nd...................................30/12
3rd....................................30/12
4th....................................30/12
5th....................................31/12
6th....................................4/1
If Tesco did indeed submit the files on the 30th, then all 1st to 4th payments should have been collected by now. Yes I'm aware that they (probably?) have until close of business today to be processed, but it's too much of a coincidence that they have all failed to be collected.
EDIT: jem16's post confuses me though. Is she saying that her BoS Reward account DDs have been paid to Tesco today?0 -

Yes I am. It's normally dated the 1st of the month but has been debited from BOS today and credited to Tesco today.
EDIT : Halifax reward account also the same as I would expect.0
