How Do I Change From BT Home Hub Back To My Old Router

I shifted from TalkTalk to BT Broadband about a month before Christmas. When with TalkTalk I used a Netgear DG834G Router and would like to remove the BT Home Hub 4 and revert to the Netgear. Here is what I've done.
First I unplugged the BT Hub from its power source, carried out a factory reset on the Netgear and then connected the Netgear to my laptop via a Ethernet cable and accessed the Netgear Router from there. I used auto detect and came away with the settings below. When finished the bar in the bottom right corner said I had internet connection but I couldn’t get on to the internet
Any ideas as to what might be wrong and how I might use my Netgear as the router for my bt internet
Basic Settings
Does Your Internet Connection Require A login Yes
Encapsulation PPoA (PPP over ATM)
Login bthomehub@btinternet.com
Password bt
Idle Timeout (In Minutes) 0
Internet IP Address Get Dynamically From ISP
Domain Name Server (DNS) Address :Get Automatically From ISP
NAT (Network Address Translation)
Enable Disable (didn't select any here)
ADSL Settings
Multiplexing Method VC Based
VPI 0
VCI 38
Wireless Settings Netgear
Name (SSID)
Region: Europe
Channel: 11
Mode: g@b
Wireless Access Point
Enable Wireless Access Point
Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID)
Wireless Station Access List
Security Options
Disable (This was what was selected in the automatic setup. I'm assuming it shouldn't be like that, but I'll wait until everything else is fixed)

Are you sure it was that way round? I used my PN username and password with my BT router and PN account - I don't see how a BT username could work with a PN account. I know PN is owned by BT but they are surely run as separate companies and I would hope that there would be no data sharing at the username/password level.
Edit: Re-reading I can see that perhaps you used the login example as how the OP should do it and that for yourself you would have done what I did.0 -
I want to be able to switch Netflix regions. Why change?
Since posting I’ve been told that there is a more simple way of achieving the result I want: leave the bt home hub in place, and simply connect the netgear to the hub via Ethernet. That would mean setting a satic lan ip address on same subnet as bt home hub e.g. if the home hub ip is 192.168.1.254/ then the Netgear should be 192.168.1.n where n is outside the dhcp range, and then turn off the DHCP in Netgear. Certainly worth a try!
The log into the HH4 is 192.168.1.254/ and within the advance setings of my HH4 I have a broadband address of 86.xxx.xxx.177. I’m assuming it is one of these that need to be changed but which? How do I figure out if it is outside the DHCP range?
Sorry if these questions sound simple but then all questions sound simple when you know the answer0 -
Not sure at all why accessing Netflix through the Netgear will use a different region but...
default HH4 range is 192.168.1.64-253 so could set Netgear to 192.168.1.63
Assuming you access Netflix via a browser (sorry, not familiar) just use a VPN.0 -
NAT (Network Address Translation)
Enable Disable (didn't select any here) - one has to be selected, enable it.
what is the dsl mode (adsl settings), and downstream/upstream connection speed?
if the netgear router status and connection status screens say connected, and all fields (dns, gateway, ip address, dhcp etc) are populated with sensible values (post if unsure), the problem is likely to be related to the laptops tcpip/network/adapter configuration.
daisy chaining routers and fiddling about with subnets is a waste of time, and will confuse the problem further.
ipconfig
the talk talk and bt settings would have been identical, apart from username and password (the one's you are using should work), so a router reset wasn't necessary.
put your old talk talk ssid and password in the router wireless settings and pull out the ethernet lead, it may connect.Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0 -
enable NAT, and use someone else's DNS servers, like 208.67.220.220 (OpenDNS)......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

YOUR BT username and password on your TT router not me using a BT username and password on my router.
I used my PN username and password on the BT router.
You need to use your BT username and password on the TT router.
When Netflix detect your IP they will know your region, changing router wont stop that.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
