Footasylum exchanges

Hi all.
Not a consumer right issue as such as I know my rights are pretty much nothing in the situation I'm about to describe but I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with them.
I'll keep it as short as possible, dad brought brother some trainers for Christmas sometime in December. He needed a size up but can't find the receipt. The shoes are completely unworn and in the original packaging.
I am aware their policy states that they only exchange upon production of proof of purchase (he paid cash btw) but I was just wondering whether anyone has had any experience either working for them or returning something in a similar situation.
I company I work for has the same official policy however if someone tries to return something without a receipt then we are allowed to exchange it even though our policy says otherwise.
Thanks and once again I am aware that we have no consumer rights in this instance but I couldn't find a more suitable forum.

Honestly he just needs to take them back and ask. No one here is going to be able to tell you if that store or that employee is happy to 'go against' official policy. I certainly wouldn't as the shoes could have been stolen.
Just take them and ask.
Are these shoes foot asylum branded or a brand that could have been bought anywhere?0 -

Thanks for the reply. They're just a pair of Nike trainers so not footasylum branded but he does have the box which may have something to suggest it was from footasylum.0 -
Just take them back with a smile on your face, and ask politely. Say you are quite happy to exchange for the larger size, you appreciate that this is against their returns policy but were wondering if anything at all could be done.
If they agree, result. If not, sell on eBay/Gumtree etc.0 -
Did you have any luck taking the shoes back? Foot asylum are not the best for customer service, exchanges or faults so well done of you managed to exchange.
I wish I had read the reviews available on the Internet (trust pilot, review centre...) before I stepped into their store. Oh well you live and learn!0 -

Just to update, I tried returning them for him first without a receipt as I work near the Footasylum store, they wouldn't do anything without a receipt. I told my dad if he can remember the day and a rough time when he brought them they may be able to find an electronic receipt for their system for it.
Luckily as my dad did all his Christmas shopping that day he can remember the order of shops he went in so could give a time and they looked on their systems and printed off another receipt for him and allowed him to exchange them.0
