Sports bags and baggage allowance

Hi ladies and gents,

I have a quick question for you please! Whizz Air's cabin baggage allowance is 42x32x25cm and Ryanair's allowance is 55x40x20cm - my sports bag is 50x25x24cm but because it s a sports bag it can be squeezed into much a much smaller size! See the two picture below.

Do you think this would be allowed as part of my free cabin baggage allowance? I've only travelled with Easyjet before and they have been very good to me so far.

I don't think anyone on here will be able to tell you for sure or approve its use.

Officially it is over the size permitted by the airline. Whether you can get away with using it will be very much down to the mood of the check in or gate staff at the airport.

So far so good with EasyJet and perhaps your luck will continue, especially if the bag is not packed full and can be squashed down. That said if the gate agent has had a bad day, or the flight is full and they have been told to get gate check bags, you may come a cropper. It's a gamble and I think you understand that.

Options would be a smaller bag that fits with the size that the airline stipulates, or take your current bag and take a chance with it being taken from you at the gate and a penalty fee to be paid - about £40.

Not sure about WizzAir but my experience with EasyJet and Ryanair has been that the wheelie trolley cases are normally the bags that the gate staff eye up and target.
