Sorrounded by beige!

I'm surrounded by beige! The walls are beige, the carpets are beige. Fortunately the woodwork is... white, apart from the stair bannister which is... beige.

The bannister needs repainting. It would be a brave man to move out of the beige/white theme, but it's all a little uniform and rental in look.

I also have no clue what those fixings are, that hold it to the wall:o and whether they'd dissolve on contact with paint stripper.

So my options are:
  • suck up the beigeness;
  • Go for another colour, but what other colour could possibly work? I could think maybe a brown or a 'stone' type colour but, if (when) it looks hideous, it'll be an eternity to return it to beige;
  • Strip back the wood and stain it a light oak colour (the furniture in the house is either oak, or 'oak flatpack') with the caveat above;
  • Go for beige, and paint the fixing points something like dark brown?
All help not just gratefully received, but needed!

    Probably wooden plugs.

    Trouble with stripping back and staining is you won't know what wood is under until you strip it.

    Leave as it is, it looks good, clean, and newly decorated to me. I would put up mad colourful and vivid pictures on the wall instead to liven it up!

    There's only one thing worse than beige, that's poor quality wood that should've been painted being stained so all can see the terrible grain & many knots.

    OK, there's more than one thing worse than beige but that's near the top of the list.
    Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

    That'll be my photography 'skills';) It's quite worn on the top, in places.
