Just been on Ukpower.co.uk and Sainsburys was the 5 th cheapest supplier on a fixed one year deal, (GB energy, the cheapest, was a variable tariff ) in my area ( S.Yorks ) electric was only 8.33 p/kwhr, gas was 3.07 /kwhr. standing charge was 25 p that was a Dec 2016 fix. Those prices are almost the same as the excellent MSE BG collective one year fix which I and many others piled onto. There is no lottery with BG/Sainsburys, thats Npowers field.
  • So does that mean that Dual Fuel is cheaper, or is having 2 different suppliers better?

Often having 2 suppliers is cheaper than having a dual fuel single supplier. FWiW, I switched to Ovo's cheapest fixed tariff in August and I was paying £63 a month for 10400kWhs of gas and 2,400kWhs of electricity. I have just switched to Zog (for gas) and GBEnergy (for electricity) and changed my predicted consumption to 10000kWhs of gas and 3000kWhs of electricity. If I had stayed on my current dual fuel tariff then my annual cost with Ovo would have risen by c.£48. By switching to 2 suppliers, my annual cost has fallen from what would have been £67 per month (old DD of £63 plus £4) to £55. This equates to a saving of £144 per year.

Clearly, there is the potential for twice the trouble if things go wrong but, as both my new tariffs do not have an exit fee, I could switch to ANOther supplier/s today without any issues. It really comes down to how much time you have to make sure things stay on track. If you want a simple dual fuel tariff with accurate billing then look no further than Ovo. The main reason that I have left them is because they have a bizarre policy on tariff hopping whilst in contract. To get their latest - cheapest - deal, I have to switch away for at least three months. If their latest deals are still competitive, then I may switch back to them with a £30 cash back.

Let us all know who you select , but for gods sake dont go to Npower or Scot Power , they are trouble nowadays.
I m not a gambler and stick to the devils I know, BG/Eon or EDF. They have well run call centres and billing. Ovo also get a good press
