If your good at making your own bread I found it handy to make rolls when my funds were low. And even homemade pizza etc
Using frozen veg to make soup with the aid of a blender, varying the herbs and spices made each time different.
Excellent idea, I have Pm'd you

If you break your situation down it is £5 a day, that is plenty isn't it?0

During bad times I find it easier to budget in daily amounts rather than trying to do a weeks shopping with little money.
Also the penny jar/self service combo was my friend. I would take handfuls of change and go to the supermarket self service tills.0 -
Thak you all!
Not only are all your ideas fantastic for me and my family but they can help someone else who may just come across this thread and see a recipe of idea and use your recipes.
Tonight is Friday, we would normally have a takeaway at some point over the weekend but obviously we aren't going to do that.
I have put some chicken pieces in the slow cooker before I went to work along with half and onion and a handful of frozen peppers, and added 2tbsp of Cajun seasoning and sprayed chicken with frylight.
Might have them with hm chips or seasoned rice and sweetcorn.
Husband has said he will cook his fav chicken curry tomorrow night, so I am looking forward to a night off cooking whoop whoop!!!
As you can see we love CHICKEN!!!!!!
I picked up 800g of beef mince this morning for £1.30!!!!!!
chopped the mince in half and now they are in the freezer ready t be used.
The only thing I need to re stock on are beans and tinned tomatoes, I could do with another bag of cheap pasta and rice? so I may pop to the local lidl tomorrow.
Does anyone know what their offers are for veg/meat that may come in handy?
Finally did my self assessment tax return, so that's one less stress.
Rang child tax credits and we are now entitled to tax credits ad dh moved work and has had a pay decrease, we are just waiting for the paperwork to turn up so we can sign and return it. I don't know how long it will be before we get our first payment?

Wonderful! I love Cumberland sausage.
Great meal with jacket potatoes or mash, and baked beans or mushy peas (cook from scratch - much cheaper)
Can also be cooked with haricot beans and a pork or ham hock to make cassoulet, one of my favourite winter meals.
I also use herby sausages to stretch any stew / casserole. They add both bulk and flavour which is an unusual combination!0 -
There's a new thread every week for the half price weekends:camNolliesMUMMY wrote: »

Well done honey you are really doing well I'm glad you managed to get some bargains as well. Its surprising what you can do when you have to streetch your cash out, necessity is the mother of invention its said and very true saying it is,Day 8 and the month is slowly going for you.
I'm rooting for you I'm sure you will get through it OK
Cheers JackieO x0 -
The Cumberland sausage makes fab toad in the hole and if you twist the sausages in half you won't use as many. The Yorkshire pudding mix and the sausage with mash potato and gravy is yummy. You will get 2 dishes out of your mince if you pad it out with veg, grated carrot for spag bol and some onion and veg for a cottage pie.Why pay full price when you may get it YS

My nan used to cut sausages into bite size pieces for toad in the hole. Toadlets in the hole. We didn't realise she did it to make a few sausages go further.0
