What are my Consumer Rights on Competition Goods that Break?

Hi, about 6 months ago, I won a Gaming Computer worth around £4,000 From a competition which was held jointly between a Custom computer building company and a YouTube reviewer.
When the computer arrived the first time, the graphics cards were bent to the point it broke the motherboard, I contacted them and had it sent back to be repaired. They did this quite swiftly and cooperatively the first time.
The second time it arrived the computer case came slightly broken but the computer it's self worked ( at least I thought ).
about a month later the computer stopped working. I've contacted to people who built it and received very slow replies if any and they haven't offered me any kind of help.
I've been left here 6 months down the line from winning the computer with a useless piece of junk.
What are my rights if any on the matter and what can I do to get some kind of replacement pc or compensation if any?

The claim would really be between the person who paid for the computer and the manufacturer, as you (I assume) did not pay any money for it yourself. When did you report the fault, before 6 months or after 6 months. That may help the claim.

As you are not the consumer though, you technically have no consumer rights. The YouTube reviewer (I assume) bought it and gave it to you.

I reported the first break soon as it arrived to me, which they swiftly dealt with because it was just after the competition, and I kinda told them about it on their forums which they deleted because it made them look bad.
I also reported the second break soon as it happened about a month or two since the first break, this time messaging them personally which hasn't been dealt with and I have been getting little to no response from.
I'm currently 6 months down the line from winning the pc - I haven't been able to try see what can be done for a while because I have been busy with college work. I'm in my second year of college.

I would post the link the to competition but because I am a new user it wont allow me so I shall post it like this if you want to look further into it (thats the youtube link without the www )

The reviewer did not pay for the computer either it seems as in the video he states he asked the companies to give him the parts for the competition.
  • That's the one thanks :P

The problem you'll have is the company supplied the parts to the youtuber for free, he assembled it and sent it to you for free. Technically the youtuber is the 'provider' of the computer but you didn't pay anything for it. You can't chase the company, neither can the youtuber really as he got them for free. He could ask them for a replacement part but as they gave the initial one gratis they can refuse.

With no money changing hands for anything I'm not sure this will get anywhere.
  • I guess it's an awkward predicament I'm in since they've basically gave me a broken computer as a prize and got away with it haha

I wasn't broken for the few months after the delivery company dealt it a bad transit.

What exactly is the problem with the machine?

If its properly broken I would look to split for parts, sell off and buy and build my own.

If it is really worth £4000 then surely its worth getting it repaired? If it was me I would repair it myself but assuming this is not an option for you then I would pay someone to fix it.
  • Yeah it won't be £4000 worth of parts that are broken, likely just one item.
Get it looked at by a specialist.
