It varies from council to council but they are allowed to charge interest. There will also be legal and admin fees to pay.

Everyone should be funded for the first 12 weeks in the care home although there may be top-up fees to be paid if the home charges more than the amount the council will pay. During that time, the council takes all the resident's income apart from £23.50 'pocket money'.
