Halifax reward BR restricted??
exponential
Hi guys.
Just been accepted for a Halifax reward account via their switching service.
I was made BR in 2009 and discharged a year later.
BR is no longer showing etc etc...
Before I could continue, there was a tick box saying I agree I have never been declared BR.
I didn't realise opening a basic account like this would be restricted by my BR nearly 7 years ago?
I don't know what to do? Can I tick it and plead ignorance or should I just end the application??
Mike.

You should pick up the phone and speak to them. You may still be accepted given the time since you were BR.
"Pleading ignorance" is not a polite term for telling an outright lie, which is what you will be doing if you tick the box.0 -
Above comment is correct. YOU WILL NOT BE ASKED VIA TELEPHONE. The application differs to online.0

I would never lie about something like that. I have a problem with liars so I wouldn't do it myself.
I was just taken aback by it and wasn't sure of the implications of just ticking "yes".
I went through the eligibility checker and passed that and there were no mention of any restrictions other than the usual 18+ etc etc.
Can you still switch over the phone then? Do I mention the BR question over the phone??0 -
Yes, no problems switching via the phone. If you're asked about anything BR then as you say be honest, always. You are not asked over the phone because it's not a condition. Weirdly it is online. No dishonesty required.0

Thanks very much for that.
I'll give them a call today and see how I get on. I'll post back after.

Just a quick question.
My wife has just said that if it isn't asked over the phone that's fine but it will be in the terms and conditions for me to sign surely?
Hmmm.0 -
It's not in the terms. It's just something mentioned online, oddly.0

If you press ctrl & F on your keyboard whilst viewing the terms, type in bankrupt, then also look for bankruptcy, insolvent, insolvency, 6 years.
I have read the whole lot (sad I know but I'm putting together an up to date banks in bankruptcy guide) and there's no mention. I've asked Halifax about the condition online and had verification from their telephone applications team that it's not a condition in branch or via the phone. Hope that helps you and your wife.0 -
Wow thanks alltaken.
That's fantastic and more help than I ever expected to receive. I'm just finding the number online and ringing them.
I'll guess I'll be confirming what you said shortly..
Its not sad either, it's being thorough which I know a lot about with going through BR all them years ago.
I dont believe in doing a half-asred job so well done!
Thanks again....:T0
