cineworld charge to redeem vouchers

Cineworld requires payment of 50p per to ticket to redeem e-vouchers - this is a rip off. Is there a law against this?

Ah nevermind, I have found what your referring to. the 50p is a booking fee, and not a charge for using the e voucher.

the 50p charge would be applicable to anyone booking cinema tickets online

    From cineworld's gift card T's + C's
3.22 When a Gift Card, e-Gift Voucher or Gift Box voucher is used to make a purchase online or an e-Gift Box Voucher is redeemed online, the User will need to enter details of a debit, credit or charge card for identification and processing purposes. Where cinema tickets are booked online and paid for using a Gift Card, e-Gift Voucher or Gift Box voucher a booking/processing fee of 50p per person for whom a seat is booked will usually apply. Please see Cineworld’s Website Terms of Use for further details.

If you have a cineworld unlimited card you don't pay this fee.

I imagine you can use the vouchers in the cinema and avoid the fee, just as you can buy tickets in the cinema and avoid the fee. Alternatively, you may be able to buy a giftcard on the website with your evoucher and use that in the cinema.

The issue is that if you want decent seats you need to book tickets hours before the showing not just turn up and pay. So the 50p in a way, pays for decent seats.

When did an e-voucher become a Credit Card?

Nor is a request for information a suitable subject for a poll.

Thank you all for your views. Booking fee for redeeming eVoucher so seats are guaranteed is still smacks of fleecing customers. I got eVouchers as a result of deal between my company and Cineworld so will pursue with Cineworld direct. Fingers cross.
  • I don't see how this is against the law if it's in the TOC's but I may be wrong.
