I'm fortunate in that I have homes in the UK,Ireland and the USA

That really doesn't tell us very much... a home in the USA might mean a 500-dollar repossession in the urban jungle of Detroit, for instance!
  • Probably not... My colleagues from East Africa were the loudest complainers about the internet in West Africa. (They were astonished that there was NEVER enough bandwidth to listen to the radio on-line, for instance.)

Belize does sound good, and if things work out you could be the next Tory treasurer! However, you might be able to live happily in a different region of the Philippines: have you spent any time in Mountain Province?

No, but I've had it here as you can tell from my blog.

Is it better to take sterling or change to US dollars in the UK first when going to Belize?

  • She really suffered from the soul-destroying cruelty of life in the UK (more than I do), and as a result we are no longer together. Actually I think she would rather enjoy the life in India, but that is not an issue.

Interesting that you should cite the UK as the reason for your marriage no longer existing.
Perhaps that explains your antipathy towards Blighty.
As to your other question it's a waterside property on the Gulf Coast of Florida.Spring and Autumn are our favourite times there.

Your username, persona and bragging tells more about yourself than I ever could ;)

My antipathy is towards the many things that are wrong with how the modern UK is run rather than to the country or people as such... and I have to say that what I mind most is the Americanisation of British life: the only times that I feel really glad to be in Britain are when I have just returned to the USA. So your home in the hurricane belt of the USA would be my nightmare: I bet that it has no bus service; no left-wing groups in the community; no intelligent TV or radio access. Still, I hear that you can buy top-quality heroin round there...

Colombia sounds good. I've spent quite a lot of time in South America but not yet made it up there. I lived in Bolivia for a couple of years - a nice country but certainly not without its flaws. Again, you really need to learn Spanish to make the most of it.

One place in South America where quite a few foreigners seem to manage to stay for extended periods without picking up more than very basic Spanish is Buenos Aires. Not sure exactly what these people do for a living though, and it would still be hard to do things like paying utility bills without speaking Spanish.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning

You're wrong on every count although I'm still not sure why having no left-wing groups in a community should somehow diminish its appeal.By that yardstick you'd have to rule out most of the Home Counties as somewhere desirable to live.
Also, not sure about the quality of heroin as it's not very high up on my shopping list.
As for hurricanes - like tornadoes in the mid-west and grinding poverty where you live in India they're all just a fact of life.
But I'll remember your concern when I'm next enjoying a sundowner on my patio overlooking the sea. :D

Some more information on my username.Like most usernames on here it's not my real name ...
As for bragging the OP asked for help on suitable countries where an expat might wish to live and as I own homes in two of the most popular destinations for UK expats it seems reasonably relevant information.
Both countries are excellent places to live and if,like me,you bought at the bottom of a housing market collapse, they have been excellent investments.
Although I can understand if envy clouds your perception.;)

Have you considered Belize? I can give you lots of details if you like, I've lived and worked there my self and will be retiring to live full time in a few years.

I've pm'd you to take you up on your kind offer.
